“We discovered a lot of stories to tell in our data expedition experience. It’s very enlightening that the data set can be speak of itself after doing some analysis and visualization that can present facts and evidence.” These are some of the statements that was brought up, after doing the data expedition exercise on the sample data set of Philippines Bureau of Customs.

The School of Data of the Open Knowledge Foundation conducted a series of data skills training workshop in Manila last May 12-19, 2014. The training workshop was organized by the World Bank through the Partnership on Open Data initiative and in collaboration with  Open Data Philippines.

The Data Expedition workshop was opened by Anders Pedersen, Knowledge Development Lead of Open Knowledge Foundation and Sec. Edwin Lacierda, Presidential Spokesperson of the Office of the President.On the last day of the workshop the Data Expedition, I was able to attend and meet the School of Data team – Anders Pedersen and Sergio Araiza. They were here as the resource person for the Data Skills Training.
